ˇˇˇˇˇˇShanghai Hong Kou Spare-time University
was set up in 1958, it is an adult university registered at
The State Ministry of Education. The school is the combination
of two, one is spare time, the other is open university, with
the same leading circle, which was evaluated by Shanghai Municipal
Educational Bureau ˇ°the advanced schoolˇ±, ˇ±the model branch
school among open universitiesˇ±, and ˇ°the top-two unit in file-managementˇ±
for years in succession.
The school lies on north Si Chuan Road commercial area, next
to the beautiful scenery of the Bound. It has the labs of computer,
electronics, electronic engineering, physics, and mechanical
numerical control. In addition to that, it has also multi-medium
room, language lab, video camera club, multi-function hall,
audio-video room, net room, art decoration room etc.. The computer
room is equipped with modern Pentium IV connecting to wide-bandwidth
optical fibre net. The library has stored 60,000 books.

The school
has more than 100 teachers and staff members, among which over
90% teachers have got medium and top professional degree. The
school has also invited a number of well-educated amateur teachers
so that it has a two comparatively stable teacher teams of combination.
The school has three ways in running, one contains high education
college, second specialty included, one non-record of formal
schooling, including post-training, before and re-entering the
labor force training and courses for those catering the entrance
examination. And the other one is cooperatively-running school,
the French Language Training Centre and ESAI Personnel Administration
Centre have already been established in our school.
The school focuses its attention on the tendency towards economy
and social development. According to the need of society, the
school is always adjusting its courses. The courses set up for
spare time adults are mechanics (numerical control automation),
computer appliance net for management, accounting, administrative,
enterprise management, office management and automobile management,
finance, calligraphy seal-carving, decoration art designing
camera work, intelligential building management, electronic
commerce, office management and automation, material flow management,
and automobile technique. The open university runs the courses
of English language , educational management, modern secretarial
staff, community management, hotel and travel management, etc..
Footing in the district, facing to the whole municipality, serving
economy and society is the purpose of our running school. The
school has kept on advancing fast, being creative for years
and gradually forming the shape of ˇ°We have while others do
not have, we are advantageous over others, we have things special
while others do not have.ˇ± What we have achieved is a great
surprise to our partner schools. Firstly, the French Language
Training Centre set up jointly between China and France is unique
in Shanghai. Secondly, calligraphy seal-carving and numerical
control automation are the only courses set up among the adult
schools. Thirdly the computer course is the unique specialized
course financed by the United Nations.
On entering the 21century our school today will be run in accordance
with the new working policy of developing in the new way of
thinking, reforming in taking up new measures, working in completely
new way. Our school is determined to usher in the new challenge,
trying to work new miracles.
